Here are some novels that The Bombay Circle Press is looking forward to reading next year.
January 1965. The orphaned O’Leary siblings – Tom, Jack, Anna and Peggy – arrive in the village of Ballycrea, tight-lipped about their troubled past and desperate for a fresh start. After being met with suspicion from most of the locals, the family are thrilled when they’re taken under the wing of their well-respected neighbours, Bill and Betty Nevan, who offer them work, companionship and an opportunity to fit in. But for one of the O’Learys, this new friendship sparks an intense attachment that makes the dynamic dangerous for all. It’s difficult to bury secrets, but almost impossible to bury feelings.
After an immensely successful debut, Sunburn, Howarth is here with yet another beautiful and gut-wrenching tale; topping our novels to read list for the next year.
Shiv Advani is an eighteen-year-old growing up in India. But he is no ordinary young man. Shiv has been personally chosen by Mahatma Gandhi to come to England, learn their laws, and then return home and help drive the British out of India. Before he leaves, his family insists he fulfill his arranged marriage, and he is hastily betrothed to a young woman he hardly knows. The racist colonialism of “the empire on which the sun never sets” seeps into everything—not just landed territories, but territories of the mind: literature, language, religion, sexuality, self-identity. Soon the people Shiv sought to be liberated from will be the people he desperately wants to be a part of. In the end, Shiv must fight not only for his country’s liberation but also his own.
Releasing in May 2026 this fantasy horror novel is set in the city of Hong Kong, which has a rich history of mythology and local folktales. She makes her home in Kowloon Walled City, where the lost and traumatised souls of dead civilians reside. Her life revolves around dealing with the angry ghosts who haunt this place and working as a ‘ghost-talker’ for the local gang. A sinister ghost with evil motives is creating disturbances and murdering children in the district, who claim to know Chan and her childhood.
The discovery of Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s treasure-filled tomb captivated London in the 1920s. Rich in jewels, precious statues, and the boy Pharaoh’s own gold-encased mummy, the burial site transformed archeology and sparked a fascination with antiquity. The renowned archeologist Howard Carter and his associate, Lord Carnarvon of Highclere Castle, made the discovery. Nobody is aware that the tomb might never have been discovered if it weren’t for the pioneering zeal of Lady Evelyn Herbert, Carnarvon’s daughter. The tale of Hatshepsut, a woman who had to take on a male identity in order to rule Egypt, captivated Evelyn as a young woman. Evelyn is on a mission to find the tomb, although it is far easier said than done. This novel will be released in March next year.
