Everyone has that one TV show that they cannot stop recommending. But you’ll be surprised to know that some of the most celebrated TV shows are an adaptation of famous fiction books that can be found in a book lover’s bookshelf. Here is The Bombay Circle Press’ list of five TV shows based on famous fiction books.
- Big Little Lies
The TV series is based on Liane Moriarty’s 2014 book, Big Little Lies. The award winning murder mystery show follows the emotional journey of the upper-class mothers when one of the single mothers is murdered. Marriage, lies, untold truths, all tie together beautifully in a murder in this award winning series that hooks you on from the beginning.
- The Night Manager
Based on the 1993 espionage book by John le Carré, The Night Manager follows the story of veteran Jonathan Pine who witnesses the murder of a young girl while working as the night manager at a prestigious hotel. To avenge the young girl, he takes on the mission that brings him face to face with the deadliest arms dealer.
- Killing Eve
The famous series written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge is based on Luke Jenning’s famous fiction book series Codename Villanelle. The story is a cat and mouse chase between Eve Polastri, an MI6 agent and Villanelle, one of the most skilled assassins in the world. The chase takes them all around the world and tangles them in a series of corrupt governments, criminal organizations and more.
- Howard’s End
M. Foster’s Howard’s End (1910) was turned into a mini series by the same name. The show follows the lives of the English families—Wilcox, Schlegel and Bast. As Margaret Schlegel and Mrs Wilcox grow closer, it comes as a shock to everyone when Mrs Wilcox leaves Howard’s End to Margaret, thus setting motion to a series of social commentary and human need for belonging and unforgettable characters.
- Maxton Hall
Based on the German book series Save Me by Mona Kasten, the show is the perfect YA academic enemies to lovers between scholarship student Ruby Bell and resident arrogant millionaire heir James Beaufort. Both students of the prestigious Maxton Hall, James does everything he can to silence Ruby when she sees something she was not supposed to. And soon enough, both find themselves being drawn closer to each other.
