Reading communities are one of the first things a reader looks out for in a new city (aside from new bookstores). Kochi has a range of readers, and multiple spaces that make them come together. The Bombay Circle Press has collated a list of book clubs in Kochi that you are bound to love!
Kochi Reading Group
KRG is a long-standing group of readers of literature in English, poetry and fiction, sharing their readings and discussions at regular sessions, and publishing matters of common interest. KRG has a dedicated list of books they read and discuss. They have long enjoyed the courtesy of a cosy niche in DC Books—accommodating about 10 readers. They read for about 90 to 120 minutes when they meet. The group discussions involve critiquing the book freely, the author’s writing or art, sharing their discoveries and reactions. In addition to all this, the group conveys literary news and tries to remain in touch with the world of literature beyond Kochi.
Kochi Reads
Kochi Reads is a small community of readers that sit together to read at Kunnara Park, near Thykoodam Metro Station. They hold quiet reading sessions every Sunday at 4:00 pm. Their agenda is simple: to create a shared space for reading. All you need to do is grab your current read, a mat, some water/snacks according to your liking, and show up. Late August marks this gang celebrating their 3rd anniversary with 100+ sessions spent reading.
Kochi Book Reading Club
The Kochi Book Reading Club thrives on respectful discussions and shared passion for literature. They foster an inclusive environment where diverse viewpoints are celebrated. As a group of friends united by a love for books, starting a community was the easy next step. The community meets at 4:30 pm on Saturdays, at Central Park, Panampilly Nagar. Join them with your favourite book in hand, and relax by reading under the sun.
