5 reads for christmas

Hot chocolate, Christmas trees, advent calendars, hallmark movies, snowy nights, warm Christmas lights, Yule log cakes and everything festive! It’s finally the time of the year when you want nothing more than to bundle up with a feel-good book, whether it’s romance or literary fiction. But every book lover will agree that the true Christmas magic is in the Christmas books, be it a classic or new novella book. So dashing through the snow with the most wholesome fiction books, here is The Bombay Circle Press’ list for this year’s Christmas reads!

1. Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

We could not make a Christmas reads list and not include the Christmas classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas! that we all grew up with. Although you might feel a little old to read this again, there’s nothing as beautiful as nostalgia on Christmas. Plus it even makes a great gift if you have kids around you.

Summary: For 53 years, the Grinch has lived in a cave on the side of a mountain, looming above the Whos in Whoville. The noisy holiday preparations and infernal singing of the happy little citizens below annoy him to no end. The Grinch must stop this and his “wonderful, awful”. In his makeshift Santa get-up, the Grinch slithers down chimneys and steals the Whos’ presents, food, even the logs from their humble Who-fires. He takes the ramshackle sleigh to Mt. Crumpit to dump it and waits to hear the sobs of the Whos when they wake up.

2. Aisha Verma’s A Case For Mistletoe

TBCP cannot fall behind and has its very own Christmas romance that will make you swoon! One of the cutest romantic books to read, Aisha Verma’s A Case For Mistletoe is the perfect if you love the Christmas hallmark movies.

Summary: Pranika Mehra is driving back home from New York for Christmas for the first time in years, carrying with her only a small suitcase and a huge secret. But when a terrible snowstorm halts her in her path, she is left at the mercy of the local mechanic to rescue her—who just so happens to be her ex-flame from years ago. After such an unpleasant welcome back home, Pranika can only hope for the worst. But worse is yet to come. The twelve days of Christmas may just bring her the joy and peace they promise—but not the way Pranika ever expected. Will she accept the solitude of her small town? Or will the city girl in her go back to her old ways?

3. Laurie Gilmore‘s The Christmas Tree Farm

If you’re looking for a cosy Christmas romance, you can never go wrong with  The Christmas Tree Farm!

Summary: Kira North hates Christmas. Which is unfortunate since she just bought a Christmas tree farm in a town that’s too cute for its own good. Bennett Ellis is on vacation in Dream Harbor taking a break from his life in California. And most importantly, taking a break from his latest run of disastrous dates. After a run in with Kira in her fields, Ben has no intention of offering to help the grumpy owner set up her tree farm, despite the fact she’s clearly got no idea what she’s doing.

Kira knows she should stop being so stubborn, but her farm is not all cute and cozy like people always show on social media, it’s borderline dangerous with no heating, and she’d rather no one saw it. But somehow fate finds Ben at Kira’s farm once more, and as Kira watches him swing an ax at the first tree, she finds herself appreciating his strength and questioning why she refused help in the first place…

4. Adam Kay’s Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas

If you want something that’s not a fiction book and touches a little more on the lines of non-fiction, Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas is a great addition to your December reading list.

Summary: The hilarious, poignant and entertaining story of the life of a junior doctor at the most challenging time of the year. With twenty-five tales of intriguing, shocking and incredible Christmas incidents, the British public will finally appreciate the sacrifices made and the challenges faced by the unsung heroes of the NHS.

5. Agatha Christie’s The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding: A Hercule Poirot Short Story

If Christmas romances aren’t your cup of eggnog, Agatha Christie’s The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding. Not only is it a quick read, it has the cutest book cover design that makes it quite an eye-catching spike on your bookshelf.

Summary: First came a sinister warning to Poirot not to eat any plum pudding…then the discovery of a corpse in a chest…next, an overheard quarrel that led to murder…the strange case of the dead man who altered his eating habits…and the puzzle of the victim who dreamt his own suicide. What links these five baffling cases? The little grey cells of Monsieur Hercule Poirot!
