We have all faced writer’s block and desperately searched for ways to get out of it. Honestly, it would be a miracle if there was a tried and tested method that for sure worked for every writer. But we all know very well that there isn’t and nor there can be. Yet this is what makes the process of writing more beautiful. It is only with trial and error that you can gauge your way through it. Overcoming these writer’s blocks helps to understand more about your writing style. Here are The Bombay Circle Press’ tips to help you out.

One of the most efficient ways to get your thoughts flowing is to change your scenery. Just as water becomes stagnant after staying in the same place for a long time, so do your thoughts. Go for a walk in different neighbourhoods, sit in a park or at a beach and let nature inspire you. There is always food for thought out there and observing people and their unique habits around you, will help you develop better and more realistic characters. You never know when inspiration will hit you. But it probably won’t hit you when you are comfortably staring at your laptop at your study desk for a long time. It’ll only further your misery. If you can afford to travel, choose a destination where you have never been before. Travel helps open your mind to a variety of perspectives and lifestyles that can help you in numerous ways. Scientifically, new stimuli lead to new neuron connections.

Remove distractions from your surroundings. Whenever you sit down to write, put your phone on DND and complete any other tasks that might weigh on your mind. Even if we are not physically multitasking, our brains always are and it is important to train it to focus on one thing at a time. Interruptions while writing can create inconsistencies in characters, plotlines, topic relevance and so much more. Declutter your desk and maybe listen to music which might help you declutter your mind.

Another way to cope is to set short-term goals for your daily word count. Writers often feel they have a burden to complete fifty thousand words in a few days and what not. But writing even five hundred words regularly is better than taking the pressure to write whole chapters or sections of a book in one go. Of course to each their own, but consistency would not only add to your word count but also improve your general flow of thoughts while writing. It is obviously easier said than done. But hey, all we can do is help each other out in times of distress. If not adding to your draft, you can also just write anything that comes to your mind. Word-vomit helps you to remove that pressure of not being productive. Embrace your stream of consciousness and put everything on paper. Even replacing your laptop screen with pen and paper can be refreshing as it forces your mind to shift focus on the writing.

After all these heavy and thought provoking methods, maybe all a writer needs is good old rest. Go watch your favourite movie, hangout with your friends and engage in your hobbies. There are many writers that thrive under pressure while others crumble. It is absolutely alright to be any kind out of the many kinds of writers to exist. Writing with pleasure visibly improves the quality of your work.
